Sogno, Edgardo CercaDefinizione
Born in Turin, Italy, on December 29, 1915, Egardo Sogno was a politician and partisan group leader. Sogno earned a degree in law and served as a diplomat in Spain before the war. He also volunteered to fight in the Spanish Civil War. After his returned to Italy, Sogno worked in the Foreign Ministry and became involved in the antifascist and liberal circles around Beneditto Croce and Giaime Pintor, yet he also supported the monarchists. Sogno joined the Italian armed forces in 1942 and served in France but was arrested for treason when he published a proclamation supporting the Allies. After the armistice in September 1943, Sogno established a partisan group in the Piedmont region named the Organization Franchi, working with the British Special Force. He was also a representative of the Liberal Party for the CLNAI. After the war, Sogno continued to participate in government, serving as a diplomat to Argentina, France, and the United States. He passed away in Turin on August 5, 2000. (en-US)
