Rosselli, Carlo CercaDefinizione
Born into a Republican Jewish family in Rome in 1899, Carlo Rosselli was a prominent leader in the anti-fascist movement in Italy and the founder of the Giustizia e Libertà movement along with his brother, Nello. The Rosselli brothers were students at the University of Florence where they were members of the intellectual anti-fascist group Circolo di Cultura. Arrested for his resistance activities, Carlo Rosselli was interned on the island of Lipari near Sicily. He managed to flee to Paris, France, where he founded Giustizia e Libertà in 1929. During the Spanish Civil War, Rosselli organized a group of Italian volunteers for the Republican side and made anti-Fascist radio broadcasts. In June 1937, Carlo and Nello Rosselli were murdered in Normandy by members of the French military intelligence under orders from the Fascist government. (en-US)
