Riccardo Pacifici was the Chief Rabbi of Genoa, Italy, before the war. Until the September 1943 armistice, he was a delegate for Delasem and provided aid for refugee Jews interned in Italy. After the armistice, Rabbi Pacifici hid his wife and children and stayed in Genoa under the protection of the archbishop, Cardinal Pietro Boetto. In December 1943, he was arrested by the Nazis and deported with members of his congregation to the Auschwitz II-Birkenau death camp where he perished. (en-US)
