Degrelle, Léon CercaDefinizione
Léon Degrelle (1906-1994) was the founder of the right-wing nationalistic movement Christus Rex in Belgium before the war and openly collaborated with the occupying Germans during the war. The Rexist movement began as a Catholic nationalist movement and became a political party with deputies in the Belgian parliament by the mid 1930s. The Rexists were financially supported by Benito Mussolini. Degrelle welcomed the Germans when they occupied Belgium in May 1940 and in 1941 commanded the paramilitary wing of the party, the Légion Wallonie. After the liberation of Belgium in September 1944, Degrelle fled to Spain, where he remained under the protection of General Franco until his death in 1994. (en-US)
