Brigate Autonome CercaDefinizione
The Brigate Autonome (Independent Brigades) were autonomous resistance groups not related to other antifascist groups such as the Brigate Garibaldi or the Brigate Guistizia e Libertà. The members of the Independent Brigades, also known as Autonomi, were ex-soldiers still loyal to the king after the September 1943 armistice. They retained their military ranks and 15 of these independent divisions operated in the Piedmont. They did not claim any political affiliations, although the officers remained royalists. (en-US)
