Giovanni Palatucci was a police chief in Fiume who rescued and aided Jews during the German occupation of northern Italy. He warned Jews of impending raids and had the files and lists of Jewish citizens at the police headquarters destroyed. In September 1944, Palatucci was arrested and deported to Dachau where he died in February 1945. (en-US)
