Piero Calamandrei (1889-1956) was a jurist, professor, and leader in the antifascist Partito d'Azione (Action Party) and the partisan brigades associated with the Party, Giustizia e Libertá (Justice and Liberty). While a professor at the university in Florence in the 1920s, he influenced the founder of the first wave of the Giustizia e Libertá movement, Carlo Rosselli. After the war he helped to write the new constitution of Italy. (en-US)
