The Partito Repubblicano Italiano (PRI) was a reform political party founded in 1895. It founders wanted to institute a republican form of government for the recently unified Italy. The PRI was abolished during the Fascist era until 1943. After then, former members of PRI participated in resistance activities with the brigades of the Justice and Liberty movement and the Mazzini Brigades. The PRI participated in coalition governments after the war and one of its members, Giovanni Spadolini, served as Italy's premier in 1981 and 1982. (en-US)
