A major city prison in the town of Milan in the province of Milano, NW of Rome. Italian authorities started to arrest Jews and incarcerate them in San Vittore immediately after the fascist Italian government declared war against the Allied powers. The conditions in San Vittore were very harsh: several suicides were recorded among the prisoners. Deportations took place from San Vittore to Auschwitz, Ravensbruck, Mauthausen and other German concentration camps. (en-US)
