Maccabi ha-Za'ir CercaDefinizione
(Hebrew: The Young Maccabi) Maccabi ha-Za'ir was the scouting and bündische-General Zionist youth movement in Germany and Czechsolovakia. Maccabi ha-Za'ir was closely linked to, yet separate from, the Maccabi Turn- und Sportverein, a Jewish athletic association with around 120 clubs and 20,000 members in Germany. Maccabi Ha-Za'ir members first settled in Palestine in 1932 or 1933. The settlements constructed by Maccabi Ha-Za'ir members include Kefar ha-Maccabi and Ma'yan Zevi. The local Cologne chapter of Maccabi ha-Zair joined forces with Hashomer Hazair in 1933. In general, Hashomer Hazair in Germany drew additional members from the ranks of Maccabi ha-Za'ir in the 1930s. In 1934 the Jüdischer Pfadfinderbund in Deutschland merged with Maccabi ha-Za'ir. The result of this merger was the growth of the membership to 5,000, with around 350 additional members residing at the hachscharot. Maccabi ha-Za'ir and Maccabi members founded the Mahleket Chaluzim. The Mahleket Chaluzim established a network of hachsharot for movement members. In Czechoslovakia, Maccabi ha-Za'ir cooperated with Hashomer Hazair to jointly found several kevutzot in Palestine. Maccabi ha-Za'ir branches merged with the Gordonia Zionist movement in 1941. The Hungarian-based section of the Maccabi Ha-Za'ir movement was affiliated with the Ihud Olami-Mapai Party and Hever Hakvutzot (in Palestine). Maccabi Ha-Za'ir members cooperated with Dror-Habonim and Hashomer Hatzair groups in resistance and rescue operations in Hungary during World War II. (en-US)
