Eppstein, Paul CercaDefinizione
Born in Ludwigshafen, Germany in 1901, Paul Eppstein was a professor, leader in the German Jewish community, and chairman of the Judenrat in the Theresienstadt ghetto. From 1929 to 1933, Eppstein was the principle of the adult education college in Mannheim, Germany. In 1933 he relocated to Berlin where he accepted posts at the Central Committee of German Jews for Relief and Reconstruction (Zentralausschuss Der Deutschen Juden Für Hilfe Und Aufbau), the Union of Jewish Communities of Prussia, and the Reich Representation of German Jews (Reichsvertretung Der Deutschen Juden). Eppstein also helped to establish the National Board of Jewish Youth (Reichsausschus der Juedischen Jugend-Verbaende). From 1939 to January 1943, Eppstein worked for the Reich Association of Jews in Germany (Reichsvereinigung Der Juden in Deutschland). In January 1943, he was deported to the Thersienstadt ghetto where he was appointed chairmen of the Ältestenrat der Juden (Council of Jewish Elders). On September 27, 1944, Eppstein was executed by the German authorities at Theresienstadt for supporting the clandestine self-defense attempts among the ghetto inhabitants. (en-US)
