Definition:
Born 1908, Buczaz, Galicia, Poland. Wiesenthal studied architecture at the Prague Technical University before World War II. During World War II, he was incarcerated at the Janówska, Plaszów, Gross-Rosen, and Buchenwald concentration camps. Wiesenthal was employed by the War Crimes section of the United States armed forces in Austria after the war. In 1947 he founded the Jewish Historical Documentation Center in Linz, Austria. Wiesenthal relocated to Vienna continuing his investigation of Nazi war criminals in 1961. He has investigated and tracked the Nazi war criminals Franz Stangl, Gustav Wagner, Franz Mürer, and Karl Silberbauer. In 1977 the Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies was established in Los Angeles. (en-US)
