Czerniaków, Adam CercaDefinizione
(1880-1942) Adam Czerniaków was appointed head of the Warsaw Jewish community on Sep 23, 1939. As head of the Judenrat in the Warsaw Ghetto, Czerniaków's authority was challenged by various groups, including the German police and the SD, but because he had the support of the Generalgouvernment Czerniaków was able to maintain his position. On July 23, 1942 Czerniaków committed suicide, rather than aid in the roundup of Jews for deportation. (en-US)
