Soviet troops liberate Warsaw on January 17, 1945. Germans leave Cracow on January 19, 1945, and on the same day, Soviet troops reach German soil. Dissolution of the Polish Home Army (AK) takes place on January 19, 1945. On May 3, 1945, the First Polish Army reaches the Laba river and establishes contact with the American Ninth Army. In May 1945, only 225,000 Polish Jews remain out of a prewar population of 3 million. The Polish eastern boundary with the USSR and the Polish-German frontier along the Oder-Neisse line are set by August 2, 1945.
