Soviet troops liberate Warsaw on January 17, 1945. Germans leave Cracow on January 19, 1945, and on the same day, Soviet troops reach German soil. Dissolution of the Polish Home Army (AK) takes place on January 19, 1945. On May 3, 1945, the First Polish Army reaches the Laba river and establishes contact with the American Ninth Army.
