Definizione
A festival based on the story in the Book of Esther relating the rescue of Jews from their oppressors in ancient Persia. It is marked by festivities, parading in costumes, and the reading of the Megillat Esther (Book of Esther). It is also customary to make food baskets and distribute them to the poor (called Mishloah Manot or Shelah Manes). In most Jewish communities, the Fast of Esther is observed the day before Purim.
