Definizione

Hungary is liberated April 4, 1945. Despite political and economic pluralism, the Communist-controlled secret police commit atrocities against thousands of citizens. A Communist political offensive threatens democracy. In May and July, 1946, two pogroms take place in the provinces: they cease at the end of 1946, but popular antisemitism persists. The Zionist movement is strong among Jews. On June 12-14, 1948, the Communist party becomes the dominant political party in the country. (en-US)
