Definition: Egypt and Syria attack Israel on Yom Kippur, October 6, 1973. There is an influx of immigrants from the Soviet Union through the seventies. In 1977, the Labor party is voted out of power for the first time in Israel's history, replaced by the Likud. A peace agreement is signed with Egypt in 1979, returning captured territories in exchange for recognition. Palestinian "intifada" begins in the territories in December, 1987. (en-US)
