Definizione
A holiday that commemorates the liberation of Judea from Assyrian Greek occupation and the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem after its defilement. The Talmud records that a miracle occurred during this rededication: the menorah (candelabra) of the Temple was lit with enough sanctified oil to last one day, but remained lit for eight days. This event is commemorated by lighting candles of a Hannukiah (Hannukah candelabra) for eight days. (en-US)
