Used for discussions of the armed forces of Poland. For the wartime period, this index term should only be used for the period before the Polish army's capitulation in early October 1939. Discussions of the subsequent Polish army-in-exile should be covered by using "Polish units" should be used in conjunction with the relevant (French, British, Soviet) "armed forces" term. For discussions of Anders Army, the index term "Anders Army" should be used. Discussions of Polish resistance groups are indexed using either the "resistance groups, Polish" term or using the term for the specific group, e.g. "Armia Krajowa" or "Armia Ludowa". (en-US)

The army, navy, and air force of Poland.
In September 1939, the Polish army was attacked first by the Germans then by the Soviets and had capitulated by early October. Thereafter it reconstituted itself abroad as forces-in-exile in the West (PSZ) and in the USSR (Anders Army, Kosciuszko Division/Soviet Polish Army) or as resistance groups at home (Armia Krajowa, Armia Ludowa).
