Rivolta del Sonderkommando (Auschwitz II-Birkenau) 7 Ottobre 1944 CercaDefinizione
The Sonderkommando (Special Commandos) were units made up of Jewish concentration camp inmates that were charged with removing gassing victims from the gas chambers and placing them into the crematoria. The Sonderkommando were relieved every few months and put to death themselves. One of these units staged an uprising in the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp in 1944. On October 7, members of the Sondekommando set fire to Crematorium IV. The SS put down the revolt in the end, executed its participants, and blew up what remained of the crematorium. (en-US)
