The German government established a concentration camp in Gries, Bolzano, Italy, at the end of 1943 or beginning of 1944. Bolzano-Gries served as a transit center for Jewish and political prisoners being sent to Auschwitz and concentration camps in Germany. In August, 1944, most of the population of the Fossoli concentration camp was transferred to Bolzano-Gries. The Bolzano-Gries camp was supervised by the Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei (BdS) in Italy. The camp was liberated in April, 1945. (en-US)
