(Hebrew: The Pioneer) Youth organization of the Labor Zionist movement founded in the aftermath of the 1881 Russian pogroms. He-Halutz was a pioneering movement active in many Eastern European countries. It promoted immigration to Palestine, training of Jews in cooperative settlements (hachsharot), and military service in the Palestinian Jewish (pre-1948) and Israeli armed forces. The organization was active in resistance activities during World War II. (en-US)
