Vestfalia (Prussia, Germania : Province)   Cerca

Definizione

Capital city: Münster Beginning in the early seventeenth century, the rulers of Brandenburg-Prussia gained territories in Westphalia, a historic region of northwestern Germany. Prussia became predominant there in 1803, when it acquired Paderborn and most of Münster. In 1807, Napoleon assigned most of Westphalia to the Grand Duchy of Berg. The Kingdom of Westphalia, which he created for his brother Jérôme, was made up largely of Prussian and Hanoverian possessions between the Weser and Elbe rivers, along with the greater part of electoral Hesse. The Congress of Vienna in 1814-15 restored most of the former Westphalia to Prussia, which then established the province of Westphalia with its capital in Münster. Westphalia remained a province of Prussia until 1945. The province of Westphalia was comprised of three administrative subunits: Arnaberg, Minden, and Münster. (en-US)
